Werner Herzog Plans Vernon God Little Adaptation

Werner Herzog?s next project looks set to be an intriguing one, with the celebrated director set to adapt DBC Pierre?s much-feted novel Vernon God Little for the big screen.

The novel won the Booker Prize back in 2003, and tells the story of Vernon Little, a teenager arrested as an accomplice to a brutal high-school shooting that leaves swathes of his classmates dead.

Despite the fact that his best friend was the shooter, Vernon himself had nothing to do with the shooting, although that doesn?t stop the local residents from directing their pain and anger in his direction.

A grimly humorous satire on American violence and its portrayal in the media, Vernon God Little looks an interesting fit for a director who never tends to shy away from the provocative.

Andrew Birkin is currently hard at work on a script, and if he can translate the jet-black humour of the source material, this one could be something rather special. Werner Herzog might not seem the obvious choice for a coming-of-age story, but this one is a little different from most?
